Learn a New Language with Mango

Accents are sexyLearning a new language with Mango Languages is free for all Troy Library patrons, and offers a fast and convenient solution for our community’s increasing language-learning needs. Each lesson combines real life situations and audio from native speakers with simple, clear instructions. The courses are presented with an appreciation for cultural nuance and real-world application that integrates components of vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar and culture. Users learn actual conversation, breaking down complex linguistic elements within an audio-visual framework that draws important connections and builds on information they have already learned.

There are more than 40 foreign language courses available and 16 English as a Second Language (ESL) courses.

Mango_mobile2Learn a language on the go! Access Mango Languages' more than 47 foreign language learning courses and 16 English language learning options on your mobile device. To get started, you need to first create an account on a desktop computer, then download the app on your Apple or Android device.

Coming Soon: Mango Premiere

There has never been a better time to learn a language with Mango Languages, available to you 24 hours a day, seven days a week with a Troy Public Library card!

In addition to all the incredible language-learning tools already offered, Mango has introduced Mango Premiere, a fun and engaging method of learning language through feature films. 

mango languages logoBeginning November 12, users will be able to watch feature films in a foreign language while interacting with software to learn key vocabulary words, cultural information, and more. For a complete preview of what will be offered, check out the tour here.

Consumer ReportsAre you purchasing a new appliance, computer or car, and need a review or rating to help you decide what to buy? Do you need information about the new health care law? The Troy Public Library has you covered with Consumer Reports magazine, both in print and online. 

To use Consumer Reports online, you must have a valid Troy Public Library card. Click here, then click on the link and enter your library card number. Then get ready to be an informed consumer!

Stop by Library's Adult Information Department for more information or help with using Consumer Reports online or in print. It's just one more reason why a Troy Public Library card is a great investment.

New Business eResources at the Library

MeL LogoThe Troy Public Library now offers several new business eResources from the Michigan eLibrary (MeL) to support business owners, students, and local entrepreneurs, as well as others looking for access to global business information. The new resources have been purchased through funding allocated in State of Michigan budget, as part of the Economic Gardening initiative to grow businesses in the state.

These resources, accessible via the Library's eresources page, include: 

DemographicsNow: Business & People – provides comprehensive business and demographic information to assess business viability, create sales leads, complete location analyses and business plans, analyze population trends, compare geographies and demographics, and more.

LegalForms Library – provides official attorney forms and documents in Word format helping users to deal with their legal needs, whether for business, personal or litigation purposes.

Business Insights: Global – includes case studies, statistical data sources, news articles, academic journals, and topical reference materials organized by country, company, and industry.

BusinessDecision — offers high quality consumer market data such as the Tapestry lifestyle segmentation system, consumer spending data, demographic and housing data, population estimates, and forecasts using Census data with state of the art mapping technology.

Troy Library will be hosting a training session on Wednesday, August 21, from 9 am – 3 pm, for all these new business resources. Economic development organizations, Chambers of Commerce, and others engaged in small business development are welcome to attend. Register online or call 248.524.3542.
